Bourbon in the forefront of innovative safety solutions
Bourbon Offshore Norway AS installs an innovative tool that will ensure crews adherence of existing operational procedures and strengthen the continuous development of the company's safety management system.
The solution is developed by ShipMaster AS and provides the shipping
company with better opportunities for implementation, documentation and analysis
of all operational procedures. With an increasing degree of complexity within
maritime operations, the need for new solutions enabling crew and ship-owner to
comply with operating procedures is urgent. For Bourbon Offshore Norway AS, it
is important to be a leader and driving factor for improving safety work.
"The root cause of incidents in the offshore industry is complex, but all
too often caused by operator's procedural violations. The industry as a whole
seeks to improve on the safety culture and tools are needed to ensure quality in
compliance, risk awareness, and risk management, "says Eirik Eide, Marketing
Director of Bourbon.
Ship Master AS has developed and provides a computerized procedure system
that is made available on the vessel on a closed infrastructure. "Operational
procedures constitute the core of the organization's collective experience. It
is important to make this easily accessible, ensure compliance and contribute to
a continuous improvement as one acquires new skills," says Torbjørn Krogen,
Managing Director at ShipMaster AS.
The solution is developed in close cooperation with its users and aims to
set a new standard for HSE work in the industry. The ShipMaster HSE system is
based on a intuitive and easy implemented user interface, and enables the
ship-owning company to monitor, collect and analyze data real-time. This will
enhance the development of a safety culture, enable proactive HSE-work and
ensure documentation towards i.e. authorities and customers. The development
work was initiated and largely funded by Bourbon Offshore Norway AS, with
support from Innovation Norway.
Bourbon Offshore Norway AS has signed a contract to have the system
installed in the majority of its fleet, including 4 new builds for delivery
during 2nd half of 2010. With the delivery on new builds, it will be the first
time that the shipowner's safety manuals are completely digitally integrated on
the vessel upon delivery from the shipyard. "This system will lift the industry
to a new level in safety work, by ensuring compliance with existing procedures"
says Trond Myklebust, Managing Director of Bourbon Offshore Norway.
